Cavas Naveran, the legacy of a history

Our history

Throughout all its generations, the Naveran family home has maintained its traditional family character.

The origins of the NAVERAN name were recovered in 1840 when Pablo Parellada, a worker from a paper factory, sailed to Buenos Aires as a representative of thread paper, which was used at the time for official documents.

Years later, he returned to Barcelona, having made his fortune in America and visited Sr. Onofre de Naveran, Marquis of Guernica, who accepted his proposal of marriage to his eldest daughter. Following the wedding, he returned to Buenos Aires, but his pregnant wife fell victim to yellow fever. Upon her death, greatly devastated, he sold all his belongings in Buenos Aires and returned to Spain to deliver the sad news to his father in law. His father in law proposed that Pablo should marry his younger daughter.

This marriage produced a son; Pablo Parellada de Naveran, who married Antonia Olivé. This marriage, in turn, produced a daughter; Antonia Parellada de Naveran, who married Rene Gillieron. They went on to have an only son – Michel Gilleron Parellada de Naveran.

Cavas Naveran was thus founded in 1984 by Michel, a businessman and enologist with extensive knowledge of the Penedès land and who decided to promote a project deeply rooted in the terrain of his ancestors, which would maintain its ever-present traditional family culture.

True to a philosophy based on the zero kilometer and sustainable agriculture

Our 110 hectares of vineyards are located in the centre of the Alt Penedès district, an ideal region for the production of wine and cava.

Naveran is the surname of a family dedicated to cultivating vineyards and making handcrafted, organic wines and cavas, using a system of micro fermentation, so that its consumers can enjoy products whose grapes have been worked from the vine with the maximum possible effort and sustainability.

Its cellars are located in the estate of Can Parellada (Torrelavit) in the centre of the Alt Penedès. Being wine growers and wine makers, cultivating the vines and making the wines, controlling each stage of growth and quality of the grape and using innovative blendings from its own varieties, makes these cellars stand out from the rest in the area.

The “Denominación de Origen Penedès” (Penedès Denomination of Origin) is the principal wine tourism destination in Spain.

Naveran, organic wines and cavas

Naveran uses strict organic methods for treating its vineyards: it does not use pesticides or herbicides. It uses only organic fertilisers and, in years of excess rain, it allows the grapes to fall naturally to guarantee the quality of its harvest.

Devoted to the handcrafted philosophy of its ancestors, it cares for each vine personally, so that each bunch of grapes they produce is guaranteed a perfect grade of ripeness. In its constant search for the best quality, Naveran is also a great supporter of innovation.

At Naveran, we want to continue our commitment to creating organic wines and cavas with our characteristic terroir, from the vineyard, cellar and winery, creating products of the highest quality.
